  China Interventional Therapeutics 2011 and Chien Foundation honors Prof Gao Runlin


  On behalf of the Organizing Committee for CIT 2011 and the Board of Trustees of Chien Foundation, we are pleased to announce the nomination of Prof. Gao Runlin for the inaugural CIT-Chien Foundation Lectureship award.
  The presentation of the award will take place this Thursday 17 March at 3.15-3.30 pm at Function Room B, CNCC.  Prof. Gao will give a short lecture on the topic of ‘The Journey of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Intervention in China’.
  The Chien Foundation Lectureship award was introduced in 2008 and seeks to honor and show appreciation to outstanding teachers and promoters in education and research in interventional cardiology in the Asia-Pacific countries.
  Prof. Gao contributed to the development of interventional cardiology in China as one of the pioneers. He started to perform PTCA in 1986, he is the first one to perform emergency PTCA for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and AMI complicating cardiogenic shock in China from 1989. He also first reported coronary stenting, intravascular brachytherapy and drug eluting stent(DES) in China. He has promoted education, training, popularization and standardization of percuteneous coronary intervention in China over 2 decades. He was actively engaged in the innovation and researches on the first Chinese manufactured DES (Firebird) and other 4 new biodegradable coating DES by leading experimental and clinical studies. Recent years, he studied newly developed bioabsorbable DES and approached the feasibility of gene coating stent. He also completed a series of new drug investigations and clinical trials as a Principle Investigator. Based on the clinical and research works, he published more than 140 papers as the first or corresponding author in peer reviewed medical journals. Nine academic awards were granted to him.
  Through his extraordinary vision, dynamism, global networking and meritorious service he has represented and introduced China’s opportunities to the main cardiology centers in the world and contributed as well to bringing global attention and various affiliations and partnerships to China.
  About Chien Foundation
  Chien Foundation is a charity organization set up in Singapore in January 1997. The objective of the Foundation is to organize training and research-related programs for the purpose of contributing to, and improving, the practice of cardiovascular medicine of physicians in the Asia-Pacific region.
  With the focus on interventional cardiology, the first full-time PTCA training program took place in 1997 with two fellows from Xiamen, China, being trained in Singapore.  Since then, the Foundation has sponsored over 30 fellows for fellowship training.  Candidates were from various parts of China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and India and received their training in Singapore, Australia and the USA. Selection was based on merit and relevance to their country.
  Over the last 5 years Chien Foundation expanded its programs to include Best Abstract presentations for young investigators in Asia-Pacific PCI meetings such as CIT in Beijing China, Angioplasty Summit TCTAP in South Korea and the AsiaPCR-SingLive conference in Singapore. The Foundation also introduced the Chien Foundation Lectureship award in 2008 at these meetings.
  The Foundation was founded by Mr. Teddy Chien and Dr. Richard Ng, and is presided over by a Board of Trustees which includes Mr. David Chien, Dr. Park Seung-Jung, Prof. Gao Runlin, Prof. Alan Yeung, Dr. Harry Suryapranata and Dr. Philip Wong.  All the training fellowship, program coordination and communication are handled by Ms. Sheryl Ong, the Executive Secretary for the Foundation.
